1) Big Brother Africa (Africa)

This is the peak of them all. Big Brother is perhaps Africa’s most watched TV drama. Originally based on a show from the Netherlands, Big Brother Africa is a reality game show created by John de Mol.

The gist of the show is that there is a group of people, called “housemates” or “houseguests”, living together in a specially built large house. The show picks housemates from a mixture of countries all around Africa. The housemates are then put in 1 house for 90 days. During their stay in the house they are inaccessible to the outside world and are not ordinarily aware of outside events. Contestants are constantly monitored by in-house television cameras as well as personal audio microphones during their stay.

Recently, the season’s cash prize was increased to US$ 300,000 from US$ 200,000.
